The Bahá'í Fast

The Baha'is around the world started fasting on the 2 March and this will last for 19 days (1 Baha'i Calendar Month) ending on the 20 March where we will then usher in the Baha'i New Year - Naw Ruz on the 21 March. 21 March also marks the beginning of spring in the Northern hemisphere.

Here's something to read about The Baha'i Fast:

The Bahá'í fast is established in the Kitáb-i-Aqdas and occupies much the same preeminent position that it does in Islam. Several passages in the writings of Bahá'u'lláh lay stress on its importance, listing it with the obligatory prayer as among the greatest of the ritual obligations.

According to Bahá'u'lláh Himself, the Bahá'í fast is adapted from the fast ordained in the Bayan. The Báb's fast, mentioned in both the Arabic and Persian Bayans, occupied the last month of the Bábí calendar, the month of `Ala', roughly 2-20 March. Believers were to fast from the age of eleven (numerically equivalent to huva, `He') until forty-two (bala, `Yea'). Children could fast until noon for the first eleven days. Those over forty-two were exempted from fasting. Those fasting had to abstain from food, drink and sexual relations from sunrise to sunset -- preferably from slightly before sunrise until slightly after sunset. No exemptions are mentioned. The real meaning of the fast, the Báb said, was abstention from the love of other than the Manifestation of God. The continuation of the fast was contingent on the acceptance of Him Whom God shall make manifest.

Although Bahá'u'lláh accepted the fast of the Báb, He altered the details of its regulations in many important respects. The Bahá'í fast is binding on all believers from the age of maturity, which for Bahá'ís is fifteen, until seventy. There is no provision made for children fasting. The following individuals are exempted from fasting: Travellers, providing their journey is to last at least nine hours or two hours on foot. If they break their journey for more than nineteen days, they are only exempt for the first three days after their arrival. If they return home, they must begin fasting on arrival. The sick. Women who are pregnant or nursing. Women who menstruating, who must instead repeat the phrase `Glorified be God, the Lord of Splendour and Beauty' ninety-five times between one noon and the next. Those engaged in heavy labour, who are advised to be discrete and restrained in availing themselves of this exemption.

These groups are also exempted from fasting in Islam. Bahá'u'lláh does not require missed days of fasting to be made up later, nor does He mention abstention from sexual relations. An individual who is exempt from fasting at any part of a day is exempt from fasting the entire day. Smoking, `Abdu'l-Baha explained, is called `drinking smoke' in Arabic, and so smoking is banned while one is fasting.

The fast is binding on Bahá'ís in all countries but it is an individual obligation, not enforceable by Bahá'í administrative institutions. The secondary regulations of fasting, such as the prohibition on smoking, are at present only binding on Bahá'ís of Middle Eastern background.

Bahá'ís are allowed to fast at other times of the year but as this is not encouraged, it is rarely done. Bahá'u'lláh permitted the making of vows to fast but preferred that such vows be `directed to such objectives as will profit mankind'.

While in Edirne Bahá'u'lláh revealed a number of prayers for fasting (munajat or alvah-i-siyam), although one of them contains a reference to `Akka. These prayers, some rather lengthy, are the most important statements on the spiritual meaning of the fast in the Bahá'í scripture: for example, '. . . Thou hast bidden all men to observe the fast, that through it they may purify their souls and rid themselves of all attachment to any one but Thee . . ' Fasting itself is only acceptable if it is done purely out of love for God.

Ripple effect

Ripple effect

The world today is full of hate

Even we meet, nothing is said

A word “sorry” is considered mad

Is this destiny? Is this fate?

Yet somewhere out there, I know

There’s still love, ready to show

Though the number is less and small

They keep radiating, melting the snow

Goodness still there tough it’s scarce

Trying hard to wash darkness away

If each of us just do our part

Ripple effect will be on his way

lost

Lost

In the forest of self

I’ve lost my way

With nothing to guide me

Here goes another day

In the forest of self

There’s mirror everywhere

Shatter it to pieces

I tried but I don’t dare

Tomorrow is uncertain

Maybe it’ll be grey

With no sense of direction

All I can do is pray

I prayed for some guidance

A light to show the way

To lead me out of this forest

To bring a brand new day

Suddenly I heard voicecs

Calling me to be dare

“Be steadfast, strong and bold,

and face all come what may.”

To let go everything

Is not easy, I dare say,

But I’ll try my best

In exchange for a brighter day.

Fireflies

A glimpse of light

In the darksome night

It opens the eyes

Of you and i

A meek weak blink

Seconds in between

Trying to take a glimpse

Of that tiny thing

Just like stars above

They shine with endless love

Trying to show to us

A purpose they all serve

Twinkling in the night

Making it full of light

What a wonderful sight

Lights of unity are bright

Yet when will men realise

Thus let go of their pride?

For when they come as one

They’ll be shinning bright

Just as fireflies

Lighting up the night.

childhood doesn't wait

Childhood Doesn't Wait

I was sitting on a bench
while in a nearby mall,
When I noticed a young mother
with two children who were small.

The youngest one was whining,
"Pick me up," I heard him beg
but the mother's face grew angry
as the child clung to her leg.

"Don't hang on to me," she shouted
as she pushed his hands away,
I wish I'd had the courage
to go up to her and say...

"The time will come too quickly
when those little arms that tug,
Won't ask for you to hold them
or won't freely give a hug.

"The day will sneak up subtly
just as it did with me,
When you can't recall the last time
that your child sat on your knee.

"Like those sacred, pre-dawn feedings
when we cherished time alone
Our babies grow and leave behind
those special times we've known.

"So when your child comes to you
with a book that you can share,
Or asks that you would tuck him in
and help him say his prayer...

"When he comes to sit and chat
or would like to take a walk,
Before you answer that you can't
`cause there's no time to talk.

"Remember what all parents learn
so many times too late,
That years go by too quickly
and that childhood doesn't wait.

"Take every opportunity,
if one should slip away
Reach hard to get it back again,
don't wait another day."

I watched that mother walk away
her children followed near,
I hope she'll pick them up
before her chances disappear...

cleaning house

Cleaning House

Last Week I threw out Worrying,
it was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me;
I couldn't do things my way.

I threw out those Inhibitions;
they were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Growth,
got rid of my old dreams and doubts.

I threw out a book on MY PAST
(didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with New Goals,
started reading it today.

I threw out childhood toys
(remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too,
threw out the one from long ago.

Bought in some new books too,
called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, You should've seen the dust.

I ran across an OLD FRIEND,
haven't seen him in a while.
I remember His name is GOD,
Yes, I really like his style.

He helped me to do some cleaning
and added some thing's Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE and FAITH,
Yes I placed them right on the shelf.

I picked up this special thing
and placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT...its called PEACE.
Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble
there just isn't any place.

It's good to do a little house cleaning,
get rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter;
maybe YOU should try it yourself.

one planet one people please

One Planet One People Please

The world today is torn apart

Breaking into pieces like shattered glass

The wind of despair is blowing tough

Into the hearts of men that never last

Pride and ego men stand tall

Above others, superior to all

Selfishness starts creeping in

Pulled the trigger, he’s goin’ to fall

Kindness today is just a game

People use to climb the stairs of fame

They just don’t give from heart anymore

Help is given in a hope to gain

A mask is everyone’s new best friend

No one wants to show their true self again

Outside he maybe full of joy

Behind the mask he could be in pain

Love is the essence of life they say

And armed with it you’ll conquer the day

I believe in miracles, I believe in God

Love is all it takes to cure the world today

‘The earth is but one country,

and mankind its citizen’, cant they see?

Underneath the skin of you and me

Is a unique soul waiting to be free

All of us are brothers and sisters

But why hatred exists among us?

Do we really differ from each other?

Look deep in the eye, there’s the answer

Maybe we should learn to trust

Have faith in yourself, u need no mask

You’ll find that the world is brighter

When you face it without your mask

Be sincere in what you do

And believe that dreams do come true

Spread kindness everywhere you go

Who knows you’ll save a life or two

To change the world it starts in me

I’ll try my best to let em see

The earth is but one country

One planet one people please..

memories

Memories

It all starts

On a loomy sat.

With a joyful heart

From school we depart.

Checkin’ back our bags

Fully packed with snacks

Junk foods, sweets, n even cakes

Some even bring rain jackets

Starting point we set our foot

Luring scene brighten my mood

Together a team we’ll stood

Put our marks I knew we could

The journey begins

Joy come bouncing in

Every young heart is burning

With flame of courage from within

Humidity filled the air

Insects creepin’ everywhere

Nature is around the atmosphere

Welcoming us that are dare

Every steps getting harder

Like climbing walls without a ladder

Yet we faced it like a warrior

Armed with full strength and hard armor

Rain drops fall upon my cheek

Damn , its raining followed with mist

Sweats and rain, everything mixed

Yet we go on with our target fixed

After a long tremendous fight

A magnificent waterfall caught my sight

The work of nature is a beauty indeed

Seeing it energized our might

We continued into the woods

Heading to the 2nd one while we could

There’s no time for rest though we should

Its killing us especially our foot

Some falls, some crawls

Some even slides with their butts on the floor

Tears shed, blood poured

Yet there’s always a hand to catch the falls

Wind of despair is blowing hard

Asking us to give up and never start

Yet the trust and love in our heart

Are bonding us closer, never apart

We lost hope, we lost strength

We lost the will to finish till the end

Yet we regain all these back again

All in the touch of a true good friend

We’ve reached finally

To a place that is so heavenly

Though we are cold and freezed

I can feel the joy in me

Rain starts to pour on us

I should’ve ate more breakfast!

Now all of us are shivering fast

squeezed together to keep warm we must

‘Oh My God!’ someone shouts

this couldn’t be good I doubt

Damn the water level has risen up

We are stuck for help we shout

Day is goin’ night crawls in

We all squeezed together in any mean

Wisels and shouts keep on goin’

Hope that somehow we’ll be seen

Foods are shared to keep us warm

I see the leader’s will is still strong

We have faith and will hold on

We still got each other, nothin’ can went wrong

Suddenly in the midst of night

There came a few rays of light

‘We are here!’ we shouted with all our might

Thank God for sending angels to our side

At last we are back safe and sound

We’ve conquered the giant mount

It wasn’t just waterfalls that we’ve found

It’s abundant of love abound!

eraser

Eraser

Since young we’ve found

that scribbles and mistakes

can be erase to none.

An eraser is all it takes.

It erases the thoughts unwanted

It scribes off the song unsung

It cleans the mess we’ve done

Undo everything, eraser’s the one!

How I wish that life

also comes with an eraser

to undo the things we’ve done

so that life’s simple and fun.

Everything will be so perfect

with no mistakes to be made.

Find a part of you that is sad

rub it off and you’ll be glad!

Sadly in life,

there’s no eraser around

to wipe away our tears

to swipe away our fears.

We have to understand

mistakes give us a chance

to fall down and strike again

and learn to be a stronger man

Through it we gain courage,

wisdom, strength and zeal

so we don deal problems with rage

and don’t fake what we feel.

Life's Loyal Hearts

Life's Loyal Hearts

Comfort love and kindness
You'll always find in me
You and I together
We'll share life's harmony

Lean on me forever
I'll be there to the end
Totally devoted
Your very loyal friend

Warm and fuzzy feeling
Whenever you're around
Fills me with such sunshine
Each path in life is found

You'll always have a shadow
Wherever you may go
Through thick or thin in life
My friendship you will know

No matter what will happen
I'll be right here for you
Protect you in life's journey
That's what I'm meant to do

Need a friend forever
I'll always be right there
Loving you forever
Life's loyal hearts we share.

a plea

A PLEA

The night is dark

I couldn’t see

Hope for a spark

No one hear my plea

The wind is blowing

Cold and strong

Goodness sake I’m freezing

No where I belong

Tomorrow’s undefined

Today’s worst than hell

Not just a state of mind

O God I need some help

A lone soldier

I don’t wanna be

Send me an angel

Always beside me

He need not be wise

He need not be strong

For me to be precise

Just beside me all along…
